Distractions

The fish are in the freezer for a bit. I've got horribly distracted by other stuff. Namely:

The need to finish my KoW league (Cok17) and tournament (Cok18) lists for my abyssals. With the changes to molochs and formations I'm hastily painting up a wingless archfiend and some chums (old GW Chaos Ogres) to accompany them. I'll finally then be able to take some group shots. With the points cost of Abyssal Heroes it gets pretty easy to get the total army points cost so I think I'm running at about 5k of options, just not all painted. Thankfully yet another challenge is helping out on this the Monster March.




Next up is a stowaway gnome that came with my Abyssal Dwarf Cannon from Old School Miniatures. Couldn't say no to a quick paint and it's fun to paint something that isn't a daemon or a fish. The Cannon is on the list along with the second one I have to form part of my Abyssal Dwarf Allies/Force. Which leads onto....

Monopose Challenge. Having dug out some old plastics and seeing how great terrible the paint job was on them I thought it'd be fun to collect and paint up a set. This lead to finally getting round to paining a big hat, big beard abyssal. I'm still short a couple and never had a few of them all those years ago but it's fun trying to figure out what bit of the sculpt is what.  Follow more on this distraction here.

Then we have the Middlehammer Legacy Challenge. Something I missed out on last year and I'm hoping to get my act together this year. I'll be raiding the bits box and it may be an ogre based mess of a spawn but we'll see. Knowing me it'll be a rush last minute job. 

I have no idea if I'll manage it but I hope I can as it's the possible as it's one of the first ever miniatures I owned. The Oldhammer Facebook groups' March of the Titans. A great example of the Work here. I'll be working yet another recovery from the old boxes.



The final bit of painting is a spot of board game stuff for a friend. Blokes on bikes is about as far removed as I can get from horned fire bolt shooting daemons but again it's nice to break up the pattern. They're nearly done now though so It'll give me a chance to get back to work.




General KoW fashion seems to be post spreadsheets of units and their progress. Maybe I should use it to spur me on to finish the fishmen. We'll see.

I have always had a soft spot for Celts. The idea of those wild people from the North West of Europe, their "fingers up to authority" feeling against the Romans etc. I toyed for a while with trying to make an historical army but never really found a system or players local enough to me to consistently play it. The recent swell in mini agnostic games that are designed to be so has changed that. I was after some javelin throwers for my slowly growing Kings of War Northern Alliance list. This is intended to be my slow burn and use the models I love so what better place than to get some of those Celts I always fancied assembled and painted.  I like models to be simple enough to be functional but still have plenty of visual interest to paint. Scouring the options from vendors such as  Foundry ,  Perry ,  oldschoolminis , ebay and facebook trading groups I couldn't find anything that fitted the lead cast approach so turned to plastics. Guns, lots of Guns

Now I have looked at the squishy organic stuff it's time to turn my attention to the hardware (this post has evolved somewhat since this sentence however...). There is a bewildering choice of weapons on the GCPS list, there are 6 varieties of rifle alone! All seem to have slightly different stats so I am guessing a good mix is crucial. Some have rapid fire and there is weight of fire thrown in for good measure. They are all very slightly different in appearance and it turns out there is a handy guide in the Outbreak book With the base sprues I have I am limited to  LR-rifle LR-32 Carbine Grenade Launcher Flamer Laser Pistol Grenling 340 I am hoping with a sharp knife and some experimenting I can create a heavy laser rifle, Thermal Rifle, Marksmen Rifle & Accutek AWP. Although stocking up on all the weird and magical options makes my squishy base troopers pretty expensive and reduces the model count. Reducing the model count means few guns and as guns is wh

Elvish nonsense

Having got my 1000pts of Trident Realms in the bag and painted I have volunteered to paint my brother's old High Elf army for use in the Franticon event next march. He'll be teaming up with me for doubles and going it alone on the Sunday. I've always been suspicious of elves but as it's a pretty elite army it should paint up pretty quick and I'm keen to build a list which showcases all the KoW mechanics for my brother to learn. I'm also keen not to stack it hordes of bane chanted archers and Drakon Riders. I'll try and base the army around chariots, cavalry and a dragon to give the feel of a sea borne raiding party all highly mobile. I need to make sure that it's not over complicated so may steer away from Vanugaurding units. All of this is a very cunning plan as it will give me further incentive to paint and get another army sorted.
